Rebecca

Alfred Hitchcock is a true visionary. Today, I saw this film that he had directed. It is now one of my favorite movies. The movie starred Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine. They did wonderfully in this film. I think I'm going to buy it! Well, this movie was adapted from the book Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. Which I was suppose to read for my high school. It is probably a wonderful book. They said the movie is very close to the book. Well, Rebecca was a movie about: (source is wikipedia)
"The film begins with a voiceover of a woman speaking the first lines from the novel: "Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again", said to the images of a ruined country manor, she goes on telling us that she can never return to Manderley — as it no longer exists, except as a ruin.

Joan Fontaine plays a young woman (who is never named) who works as a companion to the wealthy Edythe Van Hopper (Florence Bates). In Monte Carlo, she meets the aristocratic widower Maximilian (Maxim) de Winter (Laurence Olivier) and they fall in love. Within weeks, they decide to get married.

Maxim takes his new bride to Manderley, his country house in Cornwall, England. However, the servants are reluctant to accept the new Mrs. de Winter as the new lady of the house. They are loyal to Maxim's first wife, Rebecca, who died under mysterious circumstances.

Particularly unpleasant is the housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers (Judith Anderson). She is still obsessed with Rebecca's beauty and sophistication, and preserves her former bedroom as a shrine, even to the point of seeming to worship Rebecca's handmade underwear and expensive négligée. Rebecca's "cousin" Jack (George Sanders) (actually one of her lovers) occasionally appears at the house when Maxim is away, and seems to know Mrs. Danvers well, calling her by the name "Danny", which was Rebecca's pet name for her.

The new Mrs. de Winter is intimidated by Mrs. Danvers and by the responsibilities of being the new chatelaine of Manderley. As a result, she begins to doubt her relationship with her husband. The continuous presence of Rebecca in the house starts to haunt her.

Mrs. Danvers tries to persuade Mrs. de Winter to leap to her deathTrying to act more like the perfect wife, Mrs. de Winter suggests to Maxim that they host a costume party. Maxim reluctantly consents. Mrs. de Winter excitedly plans her own costume in secret, but Mrs. Danvers suggests that she copy Caroline de Winter, an ancestor, whose portrait hangs in the upstairs hallway. On the night of the party, Mrs. de Winter reveals her costume to Maxim, who is both surprised and angry at her, shouting at her to change her costume. Mrs. de Winter rushes upstairs, sees Mrs. Danvers go into Rebecca's room and follows her. There she confronts Mrs. Danvers about her knowing that Rebecca had worn the same costume the previous year. Mrs. Danvers retaliates by saying that she will never take Rebecca's place and almost convinces Mrs. de Winter to commit suicide. But Mrs. de Winter snaps out of her trance when a sudden commotion starts downstairs — a ship has been spotted foundering off the coast.

Mrs. de Winter (after changing her outfit) rushes downstairs to the front lawn, where she hears news that a sunken boat has been found off the coast - with Rebecca's body in it. She spots a distant glow from the cottage on the shore and enters to find Maxim. Maxim admits to his new wife that he had misidentified another body as Rebecca's in order to prevent discovery of the truth. From almost the beginning of their marriage, he and Rebecca had hated one another. They had agreed to "keep up appearances" of a real marriage for the sake of the family honor. Rebecca, however, began to get "careless" after a while, for example disappearing for days on end to London and then returning as though nothing was wrong. Maxim was also aware of Rebecca's ongoing affair with Jack. One night, suspecting to find Rebecca and Jack together, Maxim came down to the cottage. Rebecca had been expecting Jack, who had never come to see her. She told Maxim that she was pregnant with Jack's child. During the argument, she fell, hit her head, and died. Maxim took the body out in a boat which he then scuttled.

In the ensuing police investigation, officials question whether the damage to the boat indicates that Rebecca may have committed suicide. Jack quickly provides evidence, a letter from Rebecca, that strongly suggests that she was not suicidal. He then tries to blackmail Maxim with it, but the blackmail plan backfires. Maxim comes under suspicion of murder and the second Mrs. de Winter must face the prospect of losing her husband. The investigation focuses on Rebecca's secret visits to a London doctor (Leo G. Carroll), which Jack presumes was due to her illicit pregnancy. However, an interview with the doctor reveals that Rebecca was, in fact, suffering from cancer, and would have died very shortly. She was not pregnant: she had lied to Maxim, apparently trying to goad him into killing her — as an (indirect) means of suicide.

As Maxim returns home to Manderley, he finds his wife safe and sound but the manor on fire, set alight by the deranged Mrs. Danvers, who dies in the flames."

I bet the book will be wonderful! I still like the movie though but I'm afraid that once I read the book I will be somewhat disappoinnted with the movie, which I hope I won't. Also one more thing, Rebecca was said to be somewhat slutty and that she did it with many people...I wonder if she ever did it with Mrs.Danvers since she called her Danny and they were really close. Also, Mrs.Danvers's obsession with Rebecca is sorta lesbianic...Admiring her underwear and saying how thin her sleepwear were and that she watches her undress and wear her sleeping gown....lesbianic much? So I plan to read the book soon. Also Maxim is so HAWT! And the late Mrs.de Winter was really pretty! Also...no that's about it XD

The Catcher in the Rye

It was a really fantastic book. J.D Salinger is a master. Personally I don't know why I like it, I just do. Maybe it's because Holden is so alone. Maybe it's the way he sees things. I don't know, but I just love this book. There isn't really much to say except that it's a classic. RIP to J.D Salinger who died January 27, 2010 :( I just need to say one more thing...In the Catcher in the Rye the movie that Sunny the prostitute mentions is Captains Courageous.
Another Fact:
You know how Holden is the Catcher in the rye? The role switches when we are introduced to Phoebe, she becomes the catcher when Holden gives Phoebe the hat and Holden becomes the falling.
Holden may be gay
We learn from Phoebe that Holden is an insecure and immature person
Hold-on Caul-Field a caul is the thing that covers our faces when we are fetuses
Holden's name is significant because it tells us that Holden never wants to grow up because he doesn't want to face the phoniness of adulthood and wants to stay innocent forever.
Holden wants to be someone who catches kids when they are about to fall of the cliff (adulthood). He imagines kids playing in a field of rye on a cliff and he's the one who catches them when they are about to fall off.
Holden's fantasized image of children is contradicted with Phoebe's character.

Earth Day

Happy earth Day? We got nada at the celebration and they didn't let us hold signs or anything wither :( Last year's eighth grade did :( Anyway we went to the Earth Day Celebration in TIme's Square. Last year we got stuff in green eco bags and the 8th graders got to be in front of the stage and hold signs and take pictures with Miss America and get autographs...this year nothing. Just standing in the sun for three hours without sitting. Last year we had seats. They were so cheap this year that they didn't even get us seats! I almost had an Heatstroke! Also they didn't even appreciate our posters :( SIgh... They spent all their money on Grace Potter and the nOcturnals (who almost blew my ears out with their loud music, but it was good music), whenever the drums beated by heart went THUMP! I never knew music could hurt...But other than that it was a good day :). Bria has forgiven me completely.

Better Days

Sadly...Tim Urban got voted off American Idol! :( He was soooooo HOT!!! He was a good singer too XD I'm just gonna have to stalk him on myspace or something now.... :( SIgh...At least Bria is completely not mad at me ;)

What's the No for? Well there was a volcanic explosion in Iceland :(, not good. I hope people there are ok. Also, Mrs. Crespo is so mean! She made us du 120 definitions when we said we didn't have to! I don;t even want to think about it!

Anger

Bria is still mad at me... :( Besides I didn't tell Armani that we were going to buy the DVD i just asked why she didn't want to. She said (Bria) I was nothing but a poison apple in her life and that she was better off without me. That made me break down. But I didn't cry (well I did but my bangs covered my face) because I didn't want to attract attention. Maybe she is better off without me. But I was just trying to help. I didn't mean to make her mad. Why was it such a big deal. Life is unfair. I felt like dying when Bria said that. Hey, she talked to me :)(. Maybe everyone is better off without me. I'm not that important. I mean if I died wouldn't someone who wanted to go to Bronx Science get to go? Wouldn't my parents have more money? Maybe I am just poison in a world of apples. Maybe I should just forget it. I can't. I just can't. This is going to be MY ghost in the closet, something I will always regret. One day, I'm going to make her forgive me. I'm probably going to go to HELL for this. Maybe I am untrustworthy, my other friends don't think so :). But BRIA does. I don't want to ruin my mac by crying on it. I'm just going to stay away for awhile. Maybe it will be the best thing to do right now. I'll see what happens. The good news is I went biking with my cousins and baked mini cheesecakes and banana walnut chocolate chip muffins with rafaela and that nun that lives in her building :).

The E-Readers

Uggg why are e readers such a big deal? i mean it's way more fun to hold a book in your hand and appreciate it. now it's cold and electronic :(. i know it's eco friendly but nothing can top the feeling of holding your brand new book in your hand and turning the page and getting paper cuts. It might save money but since electronic things can be deleted so easily and can disappear just like that, I don't think it's really a good idea. Stupid hipsters. Nothing beats the smell of a new book and flipping through the pages and holding it.

Hands

Painting my nails black as the unlit sky
as dark as an unlit room
as green as grass lit by the sun
Dark as his hair
Green as his Eyes

I don't know, I was sorta bored, then I thought of hands, then of color, then of how dark the sky seems, and how dark a room is, then how green grass hit by the sun's rays are, then how dark HIS hair is, then how green HIS eyes are. HE is an imaginary character, part of my imagination. Just part of this poem. HE is my ideal guy. TMI? Sorry but my mind just wanders.

Music Video releases

I really want to see this movie now because Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart look really hot in it....I'm weird like that. I saw the Cherry Bomb music video- Dakota Fanning feat. Kristen Stewart. It was HOT. I also saw Green Day- Last of the American Girls which was good XD, I'm gonna download it. NeverShoutNever Can't Stand it was okay...he's too much like hellogoodbye for my liking. Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce telephone was a nice video, not one of her best according to me. It was fine I guess. That's just my opinion, other people probably love it. Boys Like Girls feat. Taylor Swift Two is better than one was okay too. Vampire Weekend Cousins is okay I guess....
