It was a really fantastic book. J.D Salinger is a master. Personally I don't know why I like it, I just do. Maybe it's because Holden is so alone. Maybe it's the way he sees things. I don't know, but I just love this book. There isn't really much to say except that it's a classic. RIP to J.D Salinger who died January 27, 2010 :( I just need to say one more thing...In the Catcher in the Rye the movie that Sunny the prostitute mentions is Captains Courageous.
Another Fact:
You know how Holden is the Catcher in the rye? The role switches when we are introduced to Phoebe, she becomes the catcher when Holden gives Phoebe the hat and Holden becomes the falling.
Holden may be gay
We learn from Phoebe that Holden is an insecure and immature person
Hold-on Caul-Field a caul is the thing that covers our faces when we are fetuses
Holden's name is significant because it tells us that Holden never wants to grow up because he doesn't want to face the phoniness of adulthood and wants to stay innocent forever.
Holden wants to be someone who catches kids when they are about to fall of the cliff (adulthood). He imagines kids playing in a field of rye on a cliff and he's the one who catches them when they are about to fall off.
Holden's fantasized image of children is contradicted with Phoebe's character.
